If you are traveling through Foshan in Guangdong, China, you might be curious about the Nickelodeon Cultural Resort. Originally envisioned as a massive 250-acre resort hotel and theme park, this ambitious destination was part of the broader CN¥11.9 billion (US$1.71 billion) Foshan Cultural and Ecological Coastal Project. Groundbreaking officially took place on January 4, 2017, with an initial opening targeted for 2020.
However, with no official project updates released since 2020, the complex is currently assumed to be cancelled and is likely no longer under construction. While you cannot experience an operating theme park today, concept artwork revealed an exciting glimpse into what was planned. The resort was designed around seven immersive zones, including a signature slime-themed entrance area.
Dedicated lands were slated for fan-favorite franchises like SpongeBob SquarePants, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Paw Patrol, and Dora the Explorer. Additionally, a combined nostalgia area was designed to feature Danny Phantom, Invader Zim, The Fairly OddParents, Rugrats, and Jimmy Neutron. Much like the Nickelodeon Universe project at Mall of China in Chongqing, which saw its themed elements cancelled in 2025, this Foshan location remains a fascinating piece of unbuilt theme park history.
