Qingjing Mosque

Step into history at the Qingjing Mosque (also known as the Ashab Mosque or Shengyousi Mosque), a UNESCO World Heritage Site located on Tumen Street in Quanzhou, Fujian, China. As one of China's oldest mosques, dating back to 1009 or 1010 CE, it offers you a rare look at early cultural contact between Islamic and traditional Chinese Minnan (Hokkien) architectural styles.

During the Song and Yuan periods, this 2,500-square-metre complex served as a vital gathering space connecting local Muslims with foreign merchants and scholars traveling across the Indian Ocean. When you visit, you will see mainland China's only stone mosque entryway, built from diabase and white granite with three interconnected vaults, a lotus-decorated dome, and a lunar observation platform used to determine the start of Ramadan.

Explore the ruins of the original Fengtian Hall, an Abbasid-era hypostyle layout featuring granite street-facing windows, pishtaq archways, and blind mihrabs inscribed with Quranic verses. You will also discover the Mingshan Hall in the northwest corner, built with Southern Fujian red brick and raw soil surrounding an open central courtyard.
