Welcome to Castillo de Teayo, a unique Mesoamerican archaeological site located in the La Huasteca region of northern Veracruz, Mexico. Situated right in the center of the modern town's downtown plaza, this ancient footprint was once a large city inhabited between the 10th and 12th centuries. Today, you can visit the central square-based pyramid, which stands over 11 meters high with three inclined tiers and an original top structure, likely once a temple.
As one of the few surviving buildings of its type in Mesoamerica, its architecture and surrounding history showcase a rich mixture of Huastec, Mexica, Toltec, and Aztec influences. While visiting, you can explore the preserved central building and discover the small site museum located right at Pyramid Plaza. The museum displays fascinating stone sculptures excavated from the area, depicting ancient gods, animals, human figures, and stylistic elements reflecting historical phallic worship.
Conveniently accessed via Federal Highway 130 México-Tuxpan, Castillo de Teayo offers you a rare, up-close look at an ancient cultural crossroads set right within a vibrant contemporary community.
