Located in the southeast part of Minsk along the scenic floodplain of the Svislach River, the Minsk Zoo offers a fascinating look into wildlife conservation born from local community efforts. Founded in 1984 by nature amateurs from the nearby Minsk Automobile Plant—led by engineer Fedor Revsin—the zoo originally began as a haven for injured and displaced wild animals, such as an injured white stork, oil-polluted swans, young roes, and small foxes. Today, the zoo covers a total allocated territory of 42 hectares (100 acres) framed by Uborevicha, Tashkentskaya, Golodeda, and Mashinostroiteley streets, right near the Chyzhouka district and Chizhovskoye water reservoir.
When you visit, you will encounter an impressive collection totaling 3,585 animals across 186 species. Explore dynamic exhibits housing 1,343 mammals, 213 birds, 92 reptiles, 19 amphibians, and nearly 2,000 invertebrates. Highlights of the expanded grounds include a dedicated "South America" exposition area featuring a tropical pavilion and open enclosures, as well as an interactive children’s zoo.
As a full member of the Eurasian Regional Association of Zoos and Aquariums (EARAZA), this historic municipal site provides an engaging, unique window into native and exotic animal life.
