Welcome to Astana, Kazakhstan, home to the Nursultan Mosque—the largest mosque in Central Asia, the second largest outside the Middle East, and one of the grandest globally. Officially inaugurated in 2022 and funded entirely by private investors, this remarkable destination offers an unforgettable architectural experience. As you approach, you will marvel at the main dome, which holds the title of the largest of its kind in the world, towering at nearly 83.2 meters high.
Step through the entrance to admire one of the world's tallest wooden doors, crafted from tropical African iroko wood and adorned with traditional Kazakh patterns. Inside, you will discover stunning interior details, including 12-meter-high doors, handmade colorful stained-glass windows, and intricate Arabic calligraphy by Kazakh master Asylbek Baizakuly. You can gaze at the 100-meter-long qibla mosaic wall made of 25 million colored glasses, illuminating the 99 names of Allah in golden light.
Finally, look down to appreciate the world's largest handmade carpet, spanning 15,525 square meters across the main prayer areas. Be sure to ride the elevator up the open minaret tower in the left wing for breathtaking views of the city.
