Located in Piazza del Plebiscito in the historic center of Naples, Italy, the Royal Palace of Naples (Palazzo Reale di Napoli) is a grand historic residence originally commissioned in 1600 by the Count of Lemos to honor King Philip III of Spain. Designed by architect Domenico Fontana in a late Renaissance style, the palace grew into the main seat of power for Spanish and Austrian viceroys, French rulers Joseph Bonaparte and Joachim Murat, and the Bourbon kings of Naples.

Inside, you can explore the Museum of the Royal Apartment, which opened in the late 19th century, featuring a massive central courtyard, a grand staircase designed by Francesco Antonio Picchiatti, and the Palatine Chapel. Renovated after an 1837 fire by Gaetano Genovese, the palace showcases incredible painted vaults created by renowned Neapolitan artists like Francesco de Mura and Francesco Solimena.

As you walk through its halls, you will see the historic Hall of the Viceroys, the Royal Room, and the scenic hanging gardens (Belvedere gardens) offering sea views. Today, the palace complex also houses the National Library and connects to the iconic Teatro di San Carlo.
