When you visit Kazan, Russia, you will find the historic Nurulla Mosque, a remarkable place of worship also known over time as the Hay Bazaar Mosque, Sennaya, or The White Mosque. Originally constructed between 1845 and 1849 through donations from merchant Ğ. M. Yunısov and designed by architect A. K. Loman, this landmark offers you a fascinating glimpse into the region's rich architectural heritage.

As you explore the site, you can observe a two-storied structure featuring a beautiful hall with a cupola. Pay close attention to the intricate ornamentation, which draws inspiration from the art of medieval Volga Bulgaria and the Middle East. Above the southern entry, you will see a prominent three-storied cylindrical minaret. Your visit connects you to a dramatic story of resilience. In 1929, the mosque's minaret was destroyed, and the building was repurposed for apartments and offices for decades. It was finally returned to believers in 1992 under the name Nurullah.

Following a careful restoration directed by R. W. Bilalov between 1990 and 1995, the minaret was fully rebuilt. Today, you can appreciate this resilient, beautifully restored architectural treasure in person as you wander through Kazan.
