Construction began after a 1799 act passed by the Legislative Council, with the foundation stone laid in 1800 by Mr.

Joseph Eve. Though budgeted at three thousand pounds, the final cost exceeded seven thousand. The church held its inaugural service on July 18, 1802, led by its first rector, Reverend Henry Groombridge, and was later consecrated in 1823. As you explore the building, which originally seated about four hundred and fifty people, you will see key architectural features added over the centuries.

Admire the steeple erected in 1807 or 1816, along with a chancel and a stone pulpit introduced over the years. You can also appreciate the historic space that underwent major repairs to its roof and ceiling in 1918, when a new organ was purchased.
