Located just south of the Florida State Capitol in Tallahassee, Cascades Park is a 24-acre historic space built along the St. Augustine Branch stream. You can explore the very location that influenced commissioners to choose Tallahassee as Florida's capital city in the 1820s. Today, this Nationally Registered Historic Place seamlessly combines rich history with modern outdoor amenities.
As you stroll through the grounds, you will discover Florida's Prime meridian marker monument, which serves as the foundation point for land mapping across the entire state. You can also visit historical monuments, including a Korean War memorial. Though the site previously closed due to past industrial contamination, a major cleanup transformed it into the vibrant green space you see today, which double-functions as a clever storm water drainage system to prevent local flooding. During your visit, you can walk or bike along the scenic trails, relax near the ponds and waterfall, or enjoy the interactive fountain featuring music, light, and splash pads.
If you are traveling with children, stop by Discovery at Cascade Park to experience boulder climbing, a beachscape, and an outdoor classroom. You can also catch a performance at the outdoor Adderley Amphitheater.
