If you are exploring the history of Arlington, Texas, Seven Seas Marine Life Park holds a fascinating place in local lore. Built and owned by the city of Arlington, this former 35-acre marine mammal park opened off Interstate 30 near Six Flags Over Texas in March 1972. While visiting today, you will be reflecting on an era past: after losing money over several seasons, the park briefly operated as Hawaii Kai before closing in 1976.

During its run, the park boasted notable animal residents and shows. You would have seen Newtka, an 18-foot, 6,000-pound female killer whale who served as the main attraction in the park's largest stadium, alongside a dozen bottlenose dolphins, over 14 California sea lions, rockhopper penguins, and Pancho, a beloved 2,500-pound male elephant seal. Guests could also check out rides and features like the Arctic Ride dark ride through Antarctica, Pearl Diving, a Koi Fish Pond, the Beacon of the Seven Seas, and Bona Venture.

Interestingly, 100-million-year-old marine fossils were discovered on-site during construction, adding even deeper historical layers to this notable Texas location.
