Located in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, the Washington Pavilion of Arts and Science is a dynamic cultural center housed inside the former Washington High School building, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Opened in 1999, this architecturally interesting Neoclassical landmark features a stunning facade made from native pinkish Sioux Quartzite and rare corson diabase. Inside, you will find a vast array of attractions suitable for every interest.
Explore three floors of interactive exhibits at the Kirby Science Discovery Center, or immerse yourself in artistic creativity at the Visual Arts Center, which features seven galleries of changing local, regional, and nationwide exhibitions, including blockbuster displays and the Northern Plains Tribal Art collection in the Egger gallery. Cinema and theater lovers can catch a show at the multiformat dome theater—currently undergoing renovations to become the Sweetman Planetarium—or attend a performance at one of the two performing arts centers. As the home of the South Dakota Symphony, the venue regularly hosts Broadway productions, operas, concerts, and dance performances.
