Gardens by the Bay 🇸🇬

Gardens by the Bay is a 105-hectare (260-acre) urban park situated in Singapore's Central Region along the Marina Reservoir. Developed as part of a national strategy to transition Singapore from a "Garden City" into a "City in a Garden," the site was designed to enrich urban greenery and improve quality of life. The grounds consist of three distinct waterfront sections: Bay South Garden, Bay East Garden, and Bay Central Garden.

Spanning 54 hectares (130 acres), Bay South Garden is the largest district. Designed by Grant Associates, its overall layout draws inspiration from Singapore's national flower, the Vanda 'Miss Joaquim' orchid. The area features two large cooled conservatories situated by the reservoir: the Flower Dome and the Cloud Forest. The Flower Dome is a columnless glasshouse that replicates a cool-dry Mediterranean environment, presenting seasonal floral exhibits alongside themed plant zones. Nearby, the Cloud Forest simulates cool, moist conditions found in tropical mountain regions, featuring a 42-meter (138-foot) epiphyte-clad structure named "Cloud Mountain" and a 35-meter (115-foot) interior waterfall.

The landscape is dominated by the Supertrees, 18 vertical garden towers that range between 25 and 50 meters (82 to 160 feet) in height. These structures host exotic plant species and incorporate environmental features, including solar panels and rainwater harvesting systems linked to conservatory cooling. Visitors can navigate the elevated OCBC Skyway walkway between two towers or visit the multi-level Supertree Observatory. Each night, the grove presents Garden Rhapsody, a coordinated light and music performance.

Additional park areas include specialized horticultural gardens. The Heritage Gardens focus on the cultural history of Singapore's main ethnic groups and colonial past, while the World of Plants displays tropical rainforest biodiversity. Positioned near the Bayfront MRT station, Bayfront Plaza houses Floral Fantasy, an indoor space containing four floral landscapes and a 4D multimedia dragonfly ride. Younger visitors can explore the Far East Organization Children's Garden, which includes an adventure trail and treehouse setting.

Bay Central Garden provides a 3-kilometer (1.9-mile) waterfront promenade linking the city center to eastern areas. Bay East Garden occupies 32 hectares (79 acres) with a 2-kilometer (1.2-mile) reservoir frontage, providing views of the skyline and serving as the future location for the Founders' Memorial. Future park developments include Wetlands by the Bay, an expanded natural area in Bay South Garden slated to contain thousands of plant species, an art museum, and a pedestrian bridge connecting Bay South and Bay East.
