Situated in North Texas across portions of Dallas, Denton, and Collin counties, Carrollton is a vibrant suburban city covering roughly 37 square miles. Positioned just north of Dallas, the municipality is defined by its mix of modern commercial hubs, local history, and well-connected infrastructure, making it an established community within the broader metropolitan region.
The history of Carrollton dates back to the 1840s, beginning with early agricultural settlement under the Peters Colony grant. Industrial expansion accelerated following the arrival of the Dallas-Wichita Railroad at Trinity Mills in 1878, followed by the Missouri–Kansas–Texas Railroad and the Cotton Belt line in the 1880s. These rail connections established Carrollton as a thriving regional shipping node for livestock, cotton, and grain. Officially incorporated in 1913, the town later transformed into a center for gravel extraction, brick production, and dairy farming before experiencing rapid suburban population growth following World War II.
Today, Carrollton is recognized for its rich cultural diversity. It is home to the largest Korean community in Texas and the southern United States, centered around Koreatown Carrollton near the intersection of Old Denton Road and the President George Bush Turnpike. This commercial corridor features a high concentration of Asian restaurants and businesses. Additional local amenities include two public library locations—Hebron & Josey and Josey Ranch Lake—alongside the 13,000-capacity Tommy Standridge Stadium, which hosts football and soccer matches. The city also serves as the headquarters for several major corporate entities, including FASTSIGNS International, Heelys, Motel 6, SECURUS Technologies, and Woot.
Travelers and residents navigate the area via a comprehensive transportation network that includes Interstate 35E, the Sam Rayburn Tollway, and the President George Bush Turnpike. Public transit is anchored by the Dallas Area Rapid Transit Green Line, serving stops at Downtown Carrollton, Trinity Mills, and North Carrollton/Frankford, alongside the DART Silver Line. The Trinity Mills station also serves as the southern terminus for the A-train line connecting to Lewisville and Denton. Regional air travel is facilitated by Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, located five miles southwest, and Dallas Love Field, situated eight miles south.
Carrollton features a humid subtropical climate. Average temperatures reach their annual high during July, while January serves as the coolest month on average. Precipitation is highest during the month of May.
