Why South Fulton

Located in Fulton County, Georgia, within the Atlanta metropolitan area, South Fulton is the state's eighth-largest city by population. The municipality spans a wide territory comprised of numerous historical and neighborhood communities, including Red Oak, Cooks Crossing, Stonewall, Fife, Ben Hill, Sandtown, Cliftondale, Ono, Cedar Grove, Boat Rock/Dry Pond, Maude, Lester, Enon, Welcome All, Peters Woods, and portions of Campbellton.

The region was originally inhabited by the indigenous Creek and Cherokee peoples. In 2016, the Georgia General Assembly passed legislation authorizing a municipal charter, which local voters subsequently approved in a referendum later that year. When the city officially incorporated in 2017 as part of a regional cityhood movement, Fulton County became Georgia's first county without any unincorporated residential sections. As a result, municipal responsibilities such as police, fire, zoning, and code enforcement were transitioned to the newly formed South Fulton local government.

Cultural amenities are managed in part by the city's Department of Cultural Affairs, which supports public art and local creative programming. The Southwest Arts Center, established in 2001, serves as a central location for artistic education and performances. The facility includes a professional exhibition gallery, instructional classrooms, and a theater that presents both community shows and nationally recognized productions. Another prominent cultural site is the Wolf Creek Amphitheater, a 5,420-capacity outdoor performance space situated on a 435-acre wooded parcel that features reserved seats, VIP table areas, and general admission lawn seating.

Recreational space is abundant throughout the city, with the local parks and recreation department managing 17 public parks that cover approximately 692 acres. Public parks like Burdett Park, Sandtown Park, and Welcome All Park host youth sports leagues, senior programs, and community events. Physical facilities within these grounds feature athletic fields, indoor gymnasiums, tennis centers, swimming facilities, and walking trails. Library access across the city is maintained by the Atlanta–Fulton Public Library System.

Economic infrastructure continues to develop, particularly along Old National Highway, one of the city's primary commercial corridors. A major revitalization effort covering about 700 acres along this route is targeted for completion by 2028.
