Why Suihua
Suihua is a prefecture-level city located in the central region of Heilongjiang Province in northeastern China, positioned across the northern expanse of the Songnen Plain. Covering an area of 35,211 square kilometers, the territory shares borders with several neighboring jurisdictions, including Harbin to the south, Daqing to the west, Qiqihar to the northwest, Heihe to the north, and Yichun to the east.
The city functions as a major agricultural and service hub within the province. According to official census records from 2020, Suihua had a resident population exceeding 3.75 million people, with nearly 700,000 living in the urbanized metro area of Beilin District. Local educational institutions serving the municipality include Suihua University and the Suihua Education College. Economically, the area is driven by its farming output and service trades, complemented by industrial activities in petrochemicals, textiles, and machinery manufacturing.
Human settlement in the region spans over 10,000 years. Archaeological findings in the area include Paleolithic stone implements discovered at Hailun and Zhaodong, as well as Neolithic Ang'angxi Culture remains unearthed in Anda. The Sushen people, recognized as ancestors of the Manchu, inhabited the district during the Xia and Shang dynasties, while agricultural practices expanded rapidly during the Yuan dynasty. Following administrative development under various military commanders during the Qing dynasty, the municipality underwent several reorganizations before officially receiving prefecture-level city status in 2000.
Suihua experiences a humid continental climate defined by sharp seasonal contrasts. Winters are prolonged, dry, and severely cold, featuring a 24-hour average temperature of −20.2 °C (−4.4 °F) in January. Summers are warm and humid, with July temperatures averaging 22.5 °C (72.5 °F). The majority of the city's annual rainfall is concentrated in July and August.
Travel to and around Suihua relies on established rail and road networks. The primary Suihua railway station is positioned at the junction of Taiping Road and Beilin Road in the eastern section of the urban core. Passengers can access the city via the Harbin-Jiamusi Railway and the Harbin-Heihe Railway, which link the locality to Harbin, Jiamusi, and other provincial destinations. Long-distance buses also provide direct transport options to neighboring centers such as Daqing and Qiqihar.
