Why Bazhong

Bazhong is a prefecture-level city situated in the northeastern region of Sichuan Province, China. Positioned at the southern expanse of the Daba Mountain range, the municipality covers an area of approximately 12,301 square kilometers. Its geography is predominantly mountainous, with elevations spanning from 208.3 meters up to 2,507 meters above sea level. Bazhong shares northern borders with Shaanxi Province, while bounding Dazhou to the east, Nanchong to the south, and Guangyuan to the west.

The territory possesses a rich historical legacy originating in ancient times as the land of the Ba Kingdom. During the Xia and Shang eras, it was regarded as a vassal territory of Liang State, later acquiring designations such as Bazi, Ba County, and Hanchang County through various imperial dynasties. In modern history, the region played a significant role from 1933 to 1935 when the Fourth Front Army of the Workers' and Peasants' Red Army established a local Soviet government. Following several administrative reorganizations, Bazhong was granted prefecture-level city status in 2000.

Today, Bazhong is divided into two main urban districts—Bazhou and Enyang—alongside the three outlying counties of Tongjiang, Nanjiang, and Pingchang. These divisions encompass a broad network of townships and administrative villages, supporting a localized economy that contributes to the broader financial output of Sichuan Province.

The region experiences a monsoon-influenced humid subtropical climate characterized by four well-defined seasons. Winters remain short, foggy, and relatively mild, with January averaging around 5.8 degrees Celsius and snow occurring only rarely. Conversely, summers are long, hot, and humid, with temperatures frequently rising to 33 degrees Celsius. The majority of local rainfall is concentrated between May and September, which accounts for more than 70 percent of the yearly precipitation.

Transportation into and around Bazhong is supported by both rail and aviation links. The city lies along the Guangyuan–Bazhong railway and the Bazhong–Dazhou railway, with dedicated passenger stations operating in Bazhong and Pingchang. Air travel to the region is serviced through the Bazhong Enyang Airport, which officially opened to passengers in February 2019.
