Why Fuxin

Fuxin is a prefecture-level municipality situated in the northwestern region of Liaoning Province within the People's Republic of China, sharing its northern border with the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. The administrative territory oversees seven county-level divisions, which comprise five districts, a county, and an autonomous county. The central urban core, officially designated as Fuxin City, encompasses four urban districts and is home to a substantial part of the municipality's total population, which was recorded at 1,647,280 inhabitants in the 2020 census.

Set within a broader agricultural region, Fuxin is historically known as a major mining center and holds the title of China's "Agate City." The area houses 50 percent of the nation's total known deposits of agate and crafts over 90 percent of China's commercial agate items. Coal mining long served as another fundamental pillar of the local economy. However, following the depletion of its primary coal supplies, Fuxin was recognized in 2001 as the first resource-exhausted city in mainland China, prompting a shift away from traditional extraction.

To diversify its economic base and draw global capital, local authorities established a dedicated Special Economic Zone. The city has successfully attracted foreign direct investment to foster replacement industries, with a primary emphasis on the wind power sector. Fuxin's educational and technical infrastructure includes higher learning centers such as Liaoning Technical University and Fuxin College, which contribute to the city's ongoing industrial transition.

The region features a monsoon-influenced humid continental climate. Weather conditions during the winter months are typically long, cold, and dry, while the summer season brings hot and humid weather. The majority of the territory's total yearly precipitation is concentrated in July and August, making these two months the wettest period of the year.

Travelers reaching Fuxin can utilize an established network of roadways and rail connections. The city is served by China National Highway 101, providing a direct vehicular link between Beijing and Shenyang, as well as the G25 Changchun–Shenzhen Expressway and the G2512 Fuxin–Jinzhou Expressway. By rail, passenger services frequently link Fuxin with prominent northern urban centers like Beijing, Tianjin, and Shenyang, alongside direct train connections to Shanghai on China's eastern coast.
