Why Løkta
Løkta is an island situated within Dønna Municipality, located in the county of Nordland, Norway. Covering an area of 17.4 square kilometres (6.7 square miles), it sits at the mouth of the Ranfjorden. The island is positioned in the waters between two neighboring islands, Dønna and Hugla.
In terms of geography and settlements, the southern area of Løkta features the village of Sandåker. This settlement lies directly west of Sandåkerfjellet, a hill that rises to an elevation of 238 metres (781 feet). Among the island's primary built structures is Løkta Church.
Løkta's administrative history involves a former division between two local jurisdictions. Originally, the western side of the island was governed as part of the former Dønnes Municipality, while the eastern section fell under the jurisdiction of Nesna Municipality. This arrangement changed in 1962, when the entire island was unified under Dønna Municipality. As of 2017, Løkta was home to a population of 135 inhabitants.
