Why Chase Center
Chase Center is an indoor multi-purpose venue situated in the Mission Bay neighborhood of San Francisco, California. Located at the intersection of Third Street and 16th Street, the development anchors an eleven-acre property along a five-and-a-half-acre public waterfront park. The arena opened on September 6, 2019, as a privately financed project and serves as the home court for the Golden State Warriors of the National Basketball Association and the Golden State Valkyries of the Women's National Basketball Association.
The complex features an 18,064-seat capacity for basketball games and includes a theater arrangement that overlooks a public park. In addition to the main seating bowl, the facility houses the Oracle Performance Center practice arena, 580,000 square feet of office and laboratory space, and 100,000 square feet dedicated to retail. A 35,000-square-foot public plaza and recreation area provides open-air gathering space surrounding the main structure.
Before moving to Chase Center, the Warriors played at Oakland Arena from 1971 until 2019, with a brief relocation to San Jose during arena renovations in the late 1990s. Plans for a new home were first revealed in 2012 for a waterfront pier location, but community opposition regarding local impacts prompted developers to purchase the Mission Bay site in 2014. Groundbreaking took place in January 2017. During Valkyries contests, the venue adopts the nickname Ballhalla.
Beyond primary professional basketball fixtures, Chase Center hosts occasional games for the University of San Francisco basketball teams and an annual home game for the Santa Cruz Warriors. The venue accommodates high-profile gatherings across various disciplines, ranging from music concerts and esports finals to boxing matches, professional wrestling broadcasts, and international tennis competitions such as the Laver Cup. The arena was also selected to host the 2025 NBA All-Star Game.
Visitors can access the arena through multiple transportation options. The UCSF/Chase Center light rail station sits directly adjacent to the complex on the T Third Street line, while the Central Subway system connects the district to downtown hotels, convention centers, and regional rail lines. Additional options include two bus routes within two blocks, an on-site garage with roughly 950 parking spaces, and a ferry landing and commuter train station situated within a ten-minute walk.
