Why Energizer Park
Energizer Park is a soccer-specific stadium located in the Downtown West neighborhood of St. Louis, Missouri, adjacent to Union Station. Featuring a seating capacity of 22,423, the venue serves as the home field for the Major League Soccer franchise St. Louis City SC, as well as its developmental team, St. Louis City 2. The stadium stands on land within the historic Mill Creek Valley, a once-thriving Black community that was displaced by urban renewal in the late 1950s. Outside the entrance, the "Pillars of the Valley" monument by artist Damon Davis commemorates the former neighborhood and its residents.
The venue is engineered specifically for soccer, placing its grass pitch 40 feet below street level. A clear plastic awning overhead protects spectators from weather while retaining crowd noise and eliminating shadows on the field. All seats are situated within 120 feet of the pitch, offering the closest fan proximity to the field in Major League Soccer. The design also incorporates a dedicated supporters section accommodating over 3,000 standing fans, equipped with three capo stands, a drum platform, a supporters bar, and an integrated tifo rigging system measuring 257 feet in length.
Efforts to establish the stadium site began in 2016 on land containing unused highway off-ramps. Following a defeated public funding vote in 2017, a revised privately funded proposal emerged in 2018 under an ownership group led by the Taylor family and Jim Kavanaugh, creating the first majority female-owned franchise group in Major League Soccer. Construction commenced in February 2020 after the removal of the old highway ramps, and the structure was finished in November 2022.
Initially named CityPark following an early sponsorship change, the stadium was rebranded as Energizer Park starting in 2025 under an agreement with the St. Louis-based battery company. The facility hosted its inaugural game in November 2022 between St. Louis City 2 and Germany's Bayer 04 Leverkusen, followed by St. Louis City SC's first home Major League Soccer match against Charlotte FC in March 2023. Additionally, the venue is designated to host eight soccer matches during the 2028 Summer Olympics, marking the city's first Olympic events since 1904.
