Why Q2 Stadium

Q2 Stadium is a modern athletic facility positioned in the North Burnet district of North Austin, Texas. Designed specifically for soccer, the venue serves as the home ground for Austin FC, a Major League Soccer franchise that began competing in 2021. The venue sits on a 24-acre property owned by the municipal government and features a seating capacity of approximately 20,500.

The location was originally established in 1956 as a chemical manufacturing plant, which operated until its closure in 1985. The City of Austin acquired the property in 1995 and subsequently undertook an extensive environmental cleanup down to the bedrock. Following city approval for a multi-decade site lease in 2018, construction was privately funded by team operator Precourt Sports Ventures at an estimated cost of $260 million. Gensler served as the lead architect, and naming rights were secured through a partnership with local online banking firm Q2 Holdings.

Since opening in June 2021 with an international friendly between the women's national teams of the United States and Nigeria, the stadium has hosted numerous athletic fixtures. In addition to regular Major League Soccer matches—where Austin FC established a league record for consecutive sellouts—the field has accommodated international events such as CONCACAF Gold Cup semifinals, World Cup qualifiers, and Nations League matches. It was also selected as one of three soccer-specific venues in the country to host games during the 2024 Copa América tournament. Beyond soccer, the facility has hosted Premier Rugby Sevens competitions.

The surrounding 24-acre grounds incorporate green space alongside plans for retail and residential developments. The venue hosted its first major non-sporting event in July 2022 with Willie Nelson’s annual 4th of July Picnic and Firework show. Visitors can reach the grounds via CapMetro’s Red Line commuter rail service, which stops at the adjacent McKalla station that opened in 2024 to provide direct pedestrian access without crossing roadways. Additional public transportation is available through CapMetro Rapid route 803 as well as local bus routes 3, 383, and 392.
