Why San Francisco Solano

San Francisco Solano, commonly referred to simply as Solano, is an Argentine city situated within the Buenos Aires Province. It forms an integral part of the expansive Greater Buenos Aires urban agglomeration. Administratively, the city is shared across two separate jurisdictions, being divided between the Quilmes Partido and the Almirante Brown Partido.

The city's historical origin traces back to February 1773, when the Franciscan convent of Buenos Aires initially acquired lands in the area, which were subsequently sold off in 1871. Decades later, in 1948, the local provincial administration subdivided the territory into individual plots for purchase. The settlement was formally established in 1949 under the name San Francisco Solano, despite a municipal council resolution proposing to honor Paulino Barreiro, a judge born in Buenos Aires who was killed in 1840. The locality officially attained city status on October 12, 1981.

San Francisco Solano derives its name from St. Francisco Solano, a Spanish missionary who lived from March 10, 1549, to July 14, 1610. The municipality serves as a residential hub within the surrounding metropolitan zone, hosting a population distributed across its dual municipal borders.

Demographically, the community is split between its two governing sectors. The portion of the city administered by Quilmes contains a population of 53,363 residents, while the section lying within the Almirante Brown Partido accounts for an additional 28,344 inhabitants.
