Located in Sydney's Hyde Park, the Archibald Fountain (properly the J. F. Archibald Memorial Fountain) offers a captivating mix of classical sculpture and water. Bequeathed by J. F.

Archibald to commemorate Australia's association with France in World War I, it was designed by French sculptor François-Léon Sicard and unveiled in 1932. Inspired by classical Greek and Roman art, the centerpiece features Apollo holding a lyre, symbolizing Arts, Beauty, and Light. Water flows from horse heads into basins decorated with six water-jetting tortoises. Around the base, you will discover sculptural groups of Artemis, Pan, and Theseus vanquishing the Minotaur, accented by dolphin water jets. Surrounded by formal flower gardens and park benches, it is a popular meeting place, photo location, and spot for city workers at lunchtime.

The fountain is also electrically illuminated and floodlit at night, making evening viewing a highlight. Historically, it has been a hub for buskers, political rallies, and social gatherings.
