Belgrade Zoo

Located within Belgrade's historic Kalemegdan Park, the Belgrade Zoo—also known as the Garden of Good Hope—is Serbia's largest zoological garden. Opened in 1936, this compact 7-hectare (17-acre) refuge houses approximately 800 individual animals representing 200 species, drawing around 400,000 visitors every year. When you explore the leafy grounds, you will discover remarkable exhibits tailored for animal lovers of all ages.

Don't miss the famed white lions, a symbolic highlight given that Belgrade translates to 'white city.' You can also wander over to the Humboldt penguin enclosure, see the Asian elephant, or bring children to the 1,000-square-meter walk-through petting zoo, which features friendly alpacas, rabbits, pygmy goats, a playground, and a cozy coffee shop. As you stroll, keep an eye out for famous resident icons and historic monuments. You will meet Muja, an American alligator recognized as the world's oldest living alligator in captivity, having arrived back in 1937.
