If you are exploring Berlin's rich architectural and cultural history, a visit to the Dahlem Museums (Museen Dahlem) complex in the Berlin-Dahlem district offers a fascinating glimpse into the city's museum legacy. Early visionaries Wilhelm von Bode and designer Bruno Paul laid the groundwork for this institution with plans developed between 1914 and 1923. The complex was ultimately constructed between 1969 and 1973, following the distinct New Objectivity designs of architects Fritz Bornemann and Wils Ebert.

Throughout its history, this site has housed several landmark collections. Originally, you would have found the Gemäldegalerie here before it relocated to new premises in June 1998. The complex also formerly displayed the rich holdings of the Ethnological Museum and the Museum of Asian Art, though these galleries closed their doors in January 2017 to prepare for their move to the Humboldt Forum in 2019.

Today, the building serves as the home for the Museum Europäischer Kulturen, which moved into the space back in 2011. Whether you are interested in twentieth-century architectural evolution or tracking the historic journeys of Berlin's world-class museum collections, this unique destination at 8 Lansstraße provides a memorable stop along your German journey.
