Welcome to B'nai Israel Temple, a fascinating historic landmark located at 249 South 400 East in Salt Lake City, Utah. Established in 1873, the original congregation built this magnificent former synagogue in 1890 to replace their previous downtown worship house. As you explore its history, you will discover that the building was initially envisioned as a miniature replica of Berlin's famous Fasanenstrasse Synagogue to honor the German roots of its founding members, though plans evolved during construction.

Over the decades, the congregation shifted from Orthodox practices to Reform Judaism, eventually merging with Congregation Montefiore in 1973 to create Congregation Kol Ami. Recognized for its rich cultural legacy, the structure was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. While it once served as an active house of worship and later housed a restaurant after being sold, today it stands as a unique piece of Utah heritage utilized by the Henriksen/Butler Design Group.

Visiting this site offers you an insightful look into Salt Lake City's diverse religious architecture and early Jewish community history right in the heart of the city.
