The current bridge officially opened to the public on March 1, 2017, replacing an original open-spandrel deck arch bridge constructed from concrete between 1921 and 1923. That historic original bridge was developed by the Broadway-Main Street Bridge District of Pulaski County and once drew an estimated 50,000 people to its grand opening events. As you explore the area today, you can admire the new bridge's iconic architectural design, which features two massive 450-foot spans incorporating basket handle arches.

Each of these impressive steel arches is estimated to weigh 2,000 tons. Engineered by Garver LLC and HNTB and built by Massman Construction Company, the updated crossing was specifically designed to meet local community desires by accommodating pedestrian and bicycle facilities, alongside provisions for a future streetcar line.
