Located at Calea Victoriei no. 141 in Bucharest, Romania, the stunning Cantacuzino Palace offers you a glimpse into grand Romanian history and elegant architecture. Built between 1901 and 1902 by architect Ion D. Berindey for Gheorghe Grigore Cantacuzino—a mayor of Bucharest and former prime minister—this historic residence was designed primarily in the French Beaux Arts style, featuring select Rococo Revival rooms inside.
As you approach, you will admire its princely exterior, marked by two majestic entrance lions and Louis XIV style gates and fences that once welcomed guests for high-society balls. Inside, you can explore artistic decorations created by famous artists of the era, including George Demetrescu Mirea, Costin Petrescu, and Nicolae Vermont. Look above the hallway doors to see Vermont's detailed oil-on-canvas medallions, such as Shepherd with Sheep and Peasant Woman with Vessel. Beyond its art, the palace holds major historic weight: the Treaty of Bucharest was signed here in 1913, and it later hosted the Presidency of the Council of Ministers.
Today, the building houses the National Museum George Enescu, established in 1956 after the composer's death. While only about five rooms are typically open to visitors, please note the site remains closed for ongoing restoration as of 2026.
