When you visit Bucharest, you cannot miss the Palace of the Parliament. Situated atop Dealul Spirii in the heart of Sector 5, this colossal landmark stands as the world's heaviest building and the largest civilian administrative structure on Earth. Ordered by dictator Nicolae Ceaușescu during Communist times as the "People's House," it combines modernist Neoclassical design with socialist realism. Rising 84 meters above ground and sinking 92 meters below, this pharaonic structure holds a volume that actually exceeds the Great Pyramid of Giza.

Why visit this captivating site? Beyond its sheer monumental scale, it offers a fascinating look into Romania's complex 20th-century history. You will explore an incredibly ornate interior boasting 23 distinct sections. Inside, you can see the two chambers of the Parliament of Romania—the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies—alongside the Constitutional Court and an international conference center.

Art lovers should visit the west wing glass annex, home to the National Museum of Contemporary Art, or drop by the Museum of the Palace. As you wander through its lavish halls, you will admire domestic Romanian materials, including millions of cubic meters of marble, thousands of tons of crystal, and massive woven carpets.
