Why Chajarí
Chajarí is a city located in the northeastern portion of the Entre Ríos province in Argentina. Positioned within the Federación Department, where it serves as the largest municipality, the city had a population of 45,000 according to census figures from 2010. Geographically, it sits along Provincial Route 2, roughly two kilometers east of National Route 14 and about 330 kilometers from Paraná, the provincial capital.
The origin of the settlement stems from a coordinated colonization initiative launched by both federal and provincial authorities. Established on May 28, 1872, under the original name Villa Libertad, the community began receiving European immigrants from various regions starting in 1876. Local municipal governance was formally created in 1889, and the municipality officially adopted the name Chajarí in 1934 to align with the name of the local train station.
Like several other municipalities in eastern Entre Ríos, the city is recognized for its thermal waters. In September 2001, dedicated thermal facilities were opened to provide access to these waters for visitors seeking their therapeutic benefits.
In addition to the thermal springs, the surrounding geography features the Salto Grande reservoir, a large artificial lake situated on the Uruguay River to the east. Located between 15 and 20 kilometers from the urban core, the lake area includes a campsite and serves as a venue for recreational fishing and various water sports.
