Chitral Museum

Nestled in the secluded, mountainous Chitral District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan, the Chitral Museum offers you an authentic window into the region’s rich cultural heritage and dramatic history. Established on July 8, 2010, this captivating institution was created to protect the unique traditions of a land defined by deep defiles, rushing rivers, and lush green valleys. Inside, you will explore two distinct exhibition halls: the Ethnological Gallery and the Archaeological and Kalash Gallery.

In the Ethnological Gallery, you can admire local craftsmanship and daily life through traditional embroidery from Kohistan, Swat, and Nooristan, along with intricate copper and silver jewelry. You will also discover 19th-century and early 12th-century weaponry—such as cannons, daggers, and gunpowder containers—plus stone cooking pots, musical instruments, and furniture. As you step into the Archaeological and Kalash Gallery, you will encounter the deep heritage of the Kalash valley, featuring vibrant dresses, goddess effigies, wooden commemorative statues, and unique architectural elements.

You can also view ancient Gandhara Grave antiquities unearthed at Sangoor and Parwak, including arrowheads, pottery, and semi-precious stone beads. Visiting the Chitral Museum provides you an insightful journey through the valley's living culture and ancient past.
