Located off Dame Street in central Dublin, Dublin Castle is a major Irish government complex, conference venue, and tourist destination with a history spanning centuries. Originally built as a Norman motte-and-bailey fortification at the city's highest point, it served for centuries as the seat of British power in Ireland until its historic handover to Michael Collins's Provisional Government in 1921. Rebuilt largely in the 18th century as a Georgian palace, the complex sits above the River Poddle—the historic "dark pool" (Dubh Linn) that gave Dublin its name.

Inside, you can discover accredited museum collections in the lavish State Apartments, including St. Patrick's Hall with its magnificent 1790 painted ceiling by Vincenzo Valdre. Today, this grand venue hosts Irish presidential inaugurations, state banquets, and foreign affairs events.

While exploring the complex, visitors can view the ancient 13th-century Record Tower, examine buried sections of medieval city walls and archways, visit the Chester Beatty Library, or enjoy the Garda Museum, Revenue Museum, and the former dark pool site, now transformed into a tranquil garden.
