If you are researching historic entertainment landmarks in Mumbai, India, EsselWorld offers a fascinating look into the region's theme park history. Located in Gorai on Dharavi island, this former amusement park opened its doors to the public in 1989 under the operation of Pan India Pariyatan Ltd.

Spanning an expansive area of 26 hectares, or 65 acres, alongside its sister water park, Water Kingdom, EsselWorld earned a reputation as one of the largest amusement parks in all of India. For decades, it entertained guests with its iconic catchphrase, "EsselWorld me rahunga mein, ghar nahi jaunga mein," which translates to "I will stay in EsselWorld and do not want to go home." However, you should note that the park faced significant controversies regarding its land acquisition for 2.8 square kilometres, or 700 acres, which was claimed to be illegal.

Additionally, the site was subject to allegations involving the illegal destruction of local mangroves and violations of coastal zone regulations. Crucially for your travel planning, EsselWorld has been permanently closed to the public since April 2022, so you can no longer visit or purchase tickets to go inside.
