Located in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, the Gandhi Memorial Museum offers you a profound look into the life of Mahatma Gandhi and India's independence movement. Established in 1959 within the renovated palace of Rani Mangammal near the Madurai Collector Office, this site is one of five official Gandhi Museums in the country and is recognized by the United Nations Organisation under Peace Museums Worldwide.

As you step inside, you will explore the "India Fights for Freedom" exhibition, which uses 265 illustrations to depict the national movement's history. In a quiet section, the "Visual Biography of Bapuji" presents 124 rare photographs spanning Gandhi’s life from childhood to his final journey, alongside paintings, sculptures, and personal quotations.

You can also view rare historic correspondence, including a personal letter written to Narayanan Satsangi, a message to freedom fighter Subramania Bharati, and a striking letter addressed to Adolf Hitler as "Dear Friend." The Relics and Replicas section displays 14 original artifacts used by Gandhi, highlighted by the preserved blood-stained garment worn on the day of his assassination, kept inside a vacuum glass box.
