Why Golden 1 Center
Golden 1 Center is a publicly owned indoor sports and entertainment arena situated in downtown Sacramento, California. Located on David J. Stern Walk—a street named in honor of the former NBA commissioner—the venue sits on a site partially formerly occupied by the Downtown Plaza shopping center. It anchors Downtown Commons, an urban business and entertainment district that features a sixteen-story mixed-use tower.
As the home court for the NBA's Sacramento Kings, the facility replaced the team's former home at ARCO Arena. Beyond professional basketball, the venue expands to accommodate up to 19,000 guests for major concerts, conventions, and diverse sporting competitions. Over the years, it has hosted collegiate basketball tournaments, high school state championships, professional bull riding, mixed martial arts bouts, professional wrestling, and temporary legislative sessions for the California State Legislature.
The arena features 48 loft-style suites alongside 34 luxury suites, which grant access to three exclusive clubs and two elevated skyboxes overlooking the concourse and outside plaza. Inside the bowl, visitors view a central 84-foot 4K Ultra HD scoreboard suspended above court level. The venue is also equipped with two 25-foot entrance video displays, hundreds of concourse screens, and extensive LED ribbon displays throughout the seating areas.
Reflecting its regional environment, the structure incorporates Sierra limestone, San Benito sand, recycled aluminum, glass, and certified sustainable wood. The facility achieved LEED Platinum certification thanks to its energy-efficient design, supported by a rooftop solar installation and a nearby regional solar field. The venue also displays permanent art installations by local and international artists, features a programmable rooftop light display, and lights four powerful purple laser beams at the main entrance following team victories.
Reaching the arena is facilitated by local transportation options and parking facilities. Over 13,500 vehicle spaces are located within a half-mile radius. Five light rail stations operate in the immediate vicinity, including the stop at 8th & K, while the nearby Sacramento Valley Station provides Amtrak rail, light rail, bus, and taxi services.
