As you step into Centro, Guadalajara, you will discover the Guadalajara Cathedral, also known as the Cathedral of the Assumption of Our Lady. As one of the oldest cathedrals in the Americas, this active minor basilica offers you a deep look into Mexico's rich architectural history. You can admire its impressive blend of Spanish Renaissance design and 19th-century Neo-Gothic spires, which feature striking yellow and blue Talavera-style mosaic tiles.

Constructed from adobe, yellow stone quarry, and red volcanic tezontle rock, the cathedral's grand structure stands out despite enduring structural damage and tower tilts from historic earthquakes. Inside, you can explore a geometric basilica layout split into six sections across three naves. You will see a central altar crafted from marble and silver, surrounded by religious paintings and a dome featuring French imported stained glass depicting biblical scenes.

As you walk through the naves, you can visit chapels such as El Señor de las Aguas and Nuestra Señora de la Soledad, alongside altars dedicated to Our Lady of Zapopan, St. Christopher, and other sacred figures. The cathedral also houses notable historic remains, including the mummified body of Santa Innocencia and the resting places of several cardinals and bishops.
