Located right in the center of Daegu's Jung District, Gyeongsang Gamyeong Park offers a scenic slice of local history created to preserve the site of the former Gyeongsang Gamyeong from the Joseon Dynasty under King Seonjo. You will step onto grounds that later housed the North Gyeongsang government office between 1910 and 1965, before being established as a park in 1970. Formerly known as Jung-ang Gong-won (meaning 'central park'), the area received its current name in 1997.
As you stroll through, you can admire two historic preserved buildings: Seonhwadang, the former workspace of the Gyeongsang Gamyeong governor, and Jingcheonggak, which served as the governor's residence. Alongside these traditional structures, you will see a main gate built in an old architectural style, a stone wall, and a cobblestone promenade ideal for a peaceful walk. The park grounds also feature a refreshing fountain and the Bell of Unification, which symbolizes prayers for the country's reunification.
It is a wonderfully convenient downtown stop where you can easily connect with Daegu's rich heritage.
