Located on the picturesque Neckar riverfront, the Hölderlinturm is one of the most famous sites you can explore in Tübingen, Germany. Tracing its roots back to the 13th century, this historical building features a stone foundation that originally formed part of the medieval city wall. It earned its renown as the home of the famed poet Friedrich Hölderlin, who moved into the first floor of master carpenter Ernst Friedrich Zimmer's house on May 3, 1807, following his release from a nearby clinic.

Hölderlin resided here for the final 36 years of his life until his death in 1843. Today, the renovated tower hosts the Hölderlin Society and houses an engaging permanent exhibition. As you walk through the space, you will discover details about Hölderlin's life in Tübingen, including his early study years at the Protestant Seminary (Evangelisches Stift) alongside fellow theology students Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel and Friedrich Wilhelm Joseph Schelling.

You can explore his early publications, learn about famous guests who visited him—such as Eduard Mörike and Wilhelm Waiblinger—and examine materials dedicated to the unique 'Tower poems' he penned during his residence under the pseudonym Scardanelli.
