Welcome to the Holy Spirit Cathedral, the central spiritual landmark of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Accra. The idea for this cathedral was first proposed in 1947 by Apostolic Delegate David Matthews and eagerly championed by Adolph Noser, who went on to become the very first Bishop of Accra in 1950.
To secure a permanent home for the local Catholic community, a site was purchased directly from the British crown and the Methodist Church after an extensive search. Designed by architect Joseph Jud, groundbreaking for the building occurred in 1952. The impressive church building was fully finished and consecrated in 1957, eventually establishing its own official parish in 1958.
