Located in Sector 18, Chandigarh, the Indian Air Force Heritage Museum is India's first air force heritage centre. Spanning 15,600 square feet and managed by the Chandigarh Administration, this facility opened in May 2023 to showcase the vital role of the Indian Air Force (IAF) across historical conflicts. You will discover the IAF's history through military campaigns ranging from the 1947, 1948, 1965, 1971, and Kargil conflicts to the 2019 Balakot airstrike.
When you visit, you can see five decommissioned aircraft, including a HAL HPT-32 Deepak trainer, a MiG-21 single-seat fighter, a Folland Gnat, and the historic 1958 Air Force Kanpur 1 built by Air Vice Marshal Harjinder Singh. You can also explore SAM-III Pechora missiles, scale models of aircraft like the Tejas fighter jet and Prachand helicopter, and a dedicated section honoring female IAF officers. To make history come alive, the museum features murals, electro-mechanical 3D-dioramas, and modern technology such as virtual reality, augmented reality, holograms, and flight simulators that let you experience flying firsthand.
Whether you are interested in aviation history or immersive displays, this unique center offers an engaging look into national service.
