When you visit Amman, you cannot miss the King Hussein Mosque (officially the King Hussein Bin Talal Mosque), as it stands at an elevation of 1,013 meters (3,323 feet) above sea level and can be seen from most parts of the capital city. Constructed in 2005 during the reign of King Abdullah II, this iconic landmark holds the title of the largest mosque in Jordan.
Situated in West Amman within the Al Hussein Public Parks along King Abdullah II Street, near the King Hussein Medical Center, it features a grand square structure adorned with magnificent marble floors and four soaring minarets. Beyond its impressive architecture, you will find the Prophet Mohammad Museum located right inside the mosque complex.
Opened in May 2012 by King Abdullah II, this special religious museum offers you an intimate look at rare historic artifacts linked to Muhammad. As you tour the museum exhibit, you can view incredible items including a single hair from Muhammad's beard, his historical letter written to the emperor of Byzantium urging his conversion to Islam, and a sapling from the famous Sahabi Tree, the desert tree where tradition holds that Muhammad once rested under its shade.
