When you visit, you can appreciate the craftsmanship of noted Los Angeles architect Paul Revere Williams, who holds the distinction of being the first African-American member of the AIA. The structure's purpose transformed in 1998 after the original congregation sold the property to build a new church elsewhere. Thanks to a $1.1 million donation from church member and local theater patron Moya Lear, the Reno-Sparks Theater Community Coalition purchased the building and renamed it the Lear Theater.
Recognized for its significance, this landmark was added to the Nevada State Register of Historic Places in 1982 and gained national recognition on the National Register of Historic Places in 1999. It remains a fascinating stop along the river.
