Welcome to Lundagård, a historic park set in the heart of Lund, Sweden, bridging the space between Lund Cathedral to the south and the Lund University Main Building to the north. Designed in 1745 by Royal architect Carl Hårleman, this central green space offers a fascinating blend of architectural history and Swedish academic heritage. Originally the site of an early 12th-century archbishop's fortress, the area once featured a walled garden that kept town and university separate.
Today, you can wander past impressive historical landmarks, including Kungshuset—built in 1584 as a residence for the Danish king before serving as the university's first main building—as well as the AF Borgen, Palaestra et Odeum, and the Lund University Historical Museum. Strolling through the park reveals notable sights such as Tegnérsplatsen with its statue of Esaias Tegnér, a central sculpture depicting a man breaking free from rock, and Universitetsplatsen. At Universitetsplatsen, which replaced the original botanical garden during the 1880s expansion, you will also discover Runstenskullen, a small mound established in 1868 featuring a collection of ancient runestones.
