Located about 7 to 8 kilometers west of Jodhpur near Kaylana Lake, Machia Biological Park offers you an insightful glimpse into the dry thorn-scrub ecosystem of western Rajasthan. Opened in January 2016 across 41 hectares of protected forest land, this modern zoological garden was developed by the Rajasthan Forest Department to support wildlife conservation and public education. As you explore the park's roughly 20 enclosures, you will discover an array of native animal species.
Keep your eye out for impressive large carnivores such as the Bengal tiger, Indian leopard, and endangered Asiatic lion. You can also spot native herbivores like chital, blackbuck, and chinkara, along with striped hyenas, Indian wolves, desert foxes, sloth bears, and mugger crocodiles. Plant enthusiasts will appreciate native vegetation like khejri, neem, and peepal growing in rocky soil.
To enrich your visit, step inside the Nature Interpretation Centre to learn about local ecosystems, or follow the informative signage at each enclosure. With paved paths, shaded resting pavilions, drinking water facilities, and an on-site cafeteria, Machia Biological Park provides a comfortable, educational outdoor experience when you are exploring the region surrounding historic Jodhpur.
