Why Mioveni

Mioveni is a town situated in Argeș County, Romania, positioned roughly 15 kilometers northeast of the city of Pitești. It serves as an administrative center that includes four outlying villages: Clucereasa, Colibași, Făgetu, and Racovița. As of 2021, the municipality had a recorded population of 29,317 residents.

The settlement was first documented in written records in 1485. Historically known as Colibași, the area underwent extensive urban redevelopment during the 1970s. The original historic village was cleared during the Communist era to accommodate modern building projects, and the locality officially attained town status in 1989. The traditional name of Mioveni was formally reinstated in 1996.

Mioveni is majorly recognized as an industrial center. It houses the headquarters and main manufacturing facility of the automaker Automobile Dacia, which opened in 1968 and possesses an annual production capacity of 350,000 vehicles. Additionally, the town hosts a nuclear research facility tasked with producing materials and components for the Cernavodă Nuclear Power Plant, as well as a high-security correctional institution.

For sports enthusiasts, the town features the Stadionul Orășenesc, a venue opened in 2000. It serves as the home stadium for CS Mioveni, a local football club that has competed in Romania's top professional division and reached the semifinals of the national cup.
