Nestled on Qingliang Hill in the Gulou District of Nanjing, China, Qingliang Park spans 73 hectares (180 acres) and stands over 100 meters (330 feet) high with a 4-kilometer (2.5-mile) radius. Often described as an "urban forest" thanks to its abundant trees, this serene destination is recognized by the City of Nanjing as one of its top five parks. When you visit, you will enter through three traditional arch gates, featuring calligraphy on the middle gate written by Gong Xian.
As you explore the grounds, you will discover the famous Qingliang Temple, a historical site deeply tied to noted Zen Buddhist masters like Fayan Wenyi, Juefan Huihong, and Tiantong Rujing. Originally serving as an imperial summer resort during the Southern Tang dynasty, the area later hosted the Chongzheng Shuyuan academy around 1500 AD before the temple was established. Today, you can take in rich heritage and natural beauty as you stroll through the main attractions, which include Qingliang Temple, Chongzheng College, and Cui Wei Park.
