Why Ramat HaSharon

Located along the central coastal strip of Israel within the southern Sharon region, Ramat HaSharon is a city in the Tel Aviv District and part of the Gush Dan metropolitan area. The municipality is bordered by Tel Aviv to the south, Hod-HaSharon to the east, and Herzliya alongside kibbutz Glil Yam to the north. Its core layout stretches north of Highway 5 and is largely built around two main thoroughfares, Sokolov and Usishkin Streets. Outlying areas include the detached southern neighborhood of Neve-Gan and the Cinema City Glilot commercial complex located at the intersection of Highways 5 and 2.

The settlement was established in 1923 as an agricultural moshava called Ir Shalom by Polish immigrants on 2,000 dunams of purchased land. Renamed Kfar Ramat HaSharon in 1932, the community was historically known for its citrus groves and strawberry fields before expanding into a residential city characterized by wide boulevards and gardens, officially gaining city status in 2002. Local history also extends to antiquity; archaeological excavations at Khirbat el-‘Ora uncovered Byzantine and Early Islamic remains, including stone millstones, mortars, a mosaic-paved wine press, and a gold coin minted under Emperor Heraclius depicting Golgotha hill.

Visitors exploring the city's cultural facilities can view the Geology Museum, which is housed in a Bauhaus-style structure constructed in 1945. Ramat HaSharon is also recognized as an educational and creative destination, home to institutions such as the Rimon School of Jazz and Contemporary Music and Midrasha LoOmanut, an art teachers training college. In addition to its residential and educational districts, the city hosts the manufacturing facilities of Israel Military Industries on its eastern border.

Ramat HaSharon is a major focal point for sports in Israel, particularly tennis. Founded in 1975, the Israel Tennis Center features 24 illuminated courts and stands accommodating up to 4,500 spectators. The complex includes Canada Stadium, which serves as a venue for significant national, regional, and international competitions, including Davis Cup matches and Maccabiah Games events. The city is also home to notable professional sports organizations, including the Herbalife Ramat HaSharon women's basketball team and the Hapoel Ramat HaSharon football club.
