Renaissance Palace

Located in the 1st arrondissement of Bangui at the foot of Gbazabangui Hill, the Renaissance Palace serves as the official residence of the President of the Central African Republic. Standing directly facing the PK zéro, this prominent landmark offers travelers a direct connection to the nation's political evolution. The site's original building featured classic French colonial styling complete with verandas, constructed between 1917 and 1920 under the direction of Victor Henri Sisson.

Before becoming the presidential seat, it served as the residence for the Governor of Ubangi-Shari until the country achieved independence from France in 1960. Later, the structure underwent significant reconstruction during the rule of Jean-Bédel Bokassa from 1966 to 1979. During the final three years of Bokassa's regime, when he declared himself Emperor of the Central African Empire, the complex functioned as the imperial palace.

Today, visiting the exterior allows you to appreciate a site defined by a fascinating history that spans from early twentieth-century colonial governance to the era of an empire and the modern presidency. It remains a key landmark for understanding the heritage of Bangui.
