When you visit Ningbo in Zhejiang Province, China, make sure to seek out the historic Sacred Heart Cathedral, which is also known as the Cathedral of the Seven Sorrows of Mary. It originally served as the seat for the Apostolic Vicariate of Chekiang and was officially elevated to a cathedral in 1876.
Later, it became the headquarters for the Diocese of Ningbo after its creation in 1946. Although it was forced to close in 1963, the structure reopened under a new name in 1980 and earned recognition as a national heritage site in 2006. After being partially destroyed by a devastating fire in July 2014, the cathedral underwent extensive work and was fully restored by 2018.
