Welcome to Saint Mary's Cathedral, also known as the Immaculate Conception Cathedral, located in Botahtaung Township, Yangon. Standing as the largest Catholic cathedral in Myanmar, this grand place of worship showcases a striking red-brick exterior complete with twin spires, a bell tower, and surmounting crosses. Originally planned in a Byzantine style, the structure was redesigned into a French Neo-Gothic cathedral by Dutch architect Joseph Cuypers and Father Hendrick Janzen.

Measuring 291 feet long and 101 feet wide with capacity for 1,500 people, it offers visitors a remarkable glimpse into regional architectural perseverance and religious history. When you visit, admire the meticulous brickwork crafted under challenging conditions using reinforced concrete, wooden molds, and specialized pile foundations. The cathedral has remarkably weathered historical trials, including surviving the 1930 Rangoon earthquake and World War II bombings, though its original stained glass was shattered in 1944 and later impacted by Cyclone Nargis in 2008.

Inside, pay your respects near the entrance to the nave, where Father Janzen's final resting place is marked by an inlaid marble slab. On the surrounding grounds, you will also spot Basic Education High School No. 6 Botataung, historically known as Saint Paul's High School.
